Rupert Barker

Inspired at an early age by old science fiction and horror movies I started shooting my own short films on Super 8. My first attempt at something longer was 'Wastes' - an eerie apocalyptic mystery about the coming of a new ice age. Whilst having a career as a producer on NBC's Today Show and across the network (for which I have received three Emmys and a Murrow award) I have continued to make films as a sideline. My personal work includes documentaries on the unexplained like ‘Mysterious Britain' and a hammy homage to classic British horror films called 'Crest of Fear' The comic short, ‘Gull of shame’ and its sequel, ‘Gull of Death’ are based on some truly bad poetry and  'Seaside Shocker' (2020) is a kids zombie feature. Right now I am working on the definitive feature film documentary about the Loch Ness Monster, a retro children's series on the unexplained called 'Mysteries and Monsters'. My latest film  ‘Stoneman’ just won Best Science Fiction  Featurette at the New York Science Fiction Film Festival (2023).

With a passion for history and the unusual my films are experimental and always shot on a shoestring.

What you will find here is a selection of serious work but most that are less so. The site  consists mainly of my private work though there are a handful of features from my day job that fit with the overall vibe of the collection.

Over the years the movies have been shot on a range of formats from 4k, HD, 16mm and Super 8mm and some truly ancient attempts on VHS.

I hope you have as much fun watching them as we had making them.
